FOCUS on Moms

FOCUS on Moms is a day of fun activities and workshops all while hanging out with other awesome FOCUS Moms! There will be no workshops on IEPS or Medicaid meetings…only fun, self-help workshops available and time to connect with others!

Eligibility:

Be a FOCUS Mom of a child with a disability
Registration required to attend.

Teen & Young Adult Yoga

Alpharetta Presbyterian Church 180 Academy Street, Alpharetta, GA, United States

FOCUS Teens and Young Adults will be meeting to participate in an (1 hour) adapted yoga class led by an instructor from Grounded Kids Yoga followed by Karaoke and snack. The instructor is certified in adapted techniques, and has a relationship with our FOCUS population. Please register to attend this event!
Eligibility

Have a physical and/or developmental disabilities, including Rare Genetic Syndromes, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, and Down Syndrome.
FOCUS Kid must be between ages 13 and 29
Willing to stay safe with a group and function in a 1:8 caregiver to participant ratio.
Stay with the group in a public place, with gentle reminders
Not need medical care that requires a nurse
Not need help toileting during a 2-hour period

Other Info

A large majority of TYA events are free, if any events require payment they are often at a discounted rate.
Caregivers welcome, but parents can come if absolutely necessary!
If your teen/young adult requires more interaction to engage, you may attend or send a personal caregiver to assist. We’ve learned that ‘hanging out’ is sometimes difficult for our teens / young adults and we might need your help!
Registration required to attend. We do not have availability for walk-ins.

Have a physical and/or developmental disabilities, including rare genetic syndromes, cerebral palsy, autism, and Down syndrome.
Siblings 21 and under
2 parent/caregiver tickets per family

Fee:

The first ticket for all households will cost $30. All other tickets will cost $20 per person and will cover admission, breakfast and parking.
Children two and under are free!
Meal-only tickets for $15 for seasonal pass members.

Parent Workshop: Strategies and Tips for Parents for Preparing for Transition and Employment

The thought of their child “aging out” of school services is the “elephant in the room” that worries many parents of children with disabilities. As the saying goes, “the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.” Sara will share strategies to take “little bites” over many years to enable your student to be prepared for that day when the educational chapter of your child’s life is completed. Extra Special Saturday Respite

You deserve a break today! Enjoy a few hours to run errands, lunch with a friend, or take a nap!

FOCUS offers Extra Special Saturday Respite (ESS) in the spring and fall at 2 locations. A nurse is at each location to manage G-tube feedings, seizures, and other medical care. Caregivers at each location are knowledgeable and experienced in caring for children with special needs. Ratio of caregiver to child is 1:4, but community volunteers are often on hand to help and play. It’s a wonderful time for the children to enjoy free play, music, and extra attention from FOCUS caregivers and volunteers. Oh, and the parents enjoy the break!!

FOCUS on Music

Alpharetta Presbyterian Church 180 Academy Street, Alpharetta, GA, United States

This event is free for FOCUS Young Adults and FOCUS Alumni
FOCUS Families can drop off kiddos at Alpharetta Presbyterian at 11:00 AM. Parents can stay on-site or leave to run a quick errand.
The music therapist will lead a one-hour long music session utilizing a variety of percussion instruments.
Registration is required. Space is limited, please register as soon as possible.

Join us outside in your not so scary costume. Enjoy spooky activities, games, and barbecue! Our favorite dogs from CAREing Paws will visit.

Menu: Knights of Columbus provide food for this event. Menu is typically: Barbecue Chicken, Barbecue Pork, Macaroni & Cheese, Coleslaw, Dessert with tea and water.
