Multi-Session Social/Support Group for Teens (17-19)

AANE is offering an 8-week virtual group for Autistic and Neurodivergent teens aged 17-19. This group is designed to provide teens with a safe space to feel connected to and engage with each other while practicing their social skills in a facilitated setting. The group will be developed based on the interests and needs of the members.

Multi-Session Support Group for Women (18+)

Virtual

This bi-weekly “closed” support group is designed for autistic and similarly neurodivergent adult women (18+) who are looking to build an ongoing connection with other women. The group is primarily a space to learn about and discuss neurodivergence, and to explore related topics chosen by the group. Topics may include:

Masking/camouflaging
Sensory Sensitivities and Sensory Overload
Relationships
Self Care
Empathy
The group is structured to encourage everyone to share and participate in the discussion, with respect for all members prioritized.

Information Session – LifeMAP Adult Coaching Program

Virtual

The Information Session – LifeMAP Adult Coaching Program will provide an overview of the LifeMAP Coaching program, the coaching process, and the steps to apply. Time will be provided to ask the staff questions. Registration is required and space is limited.

Workshop – Introduction to Autism for Adults

Virtual

A presentation and discussion for Autistic adults to come and explore their understanding of autism through a neurological lens. We will discuss common misconceptions, the Autistic identity, and common Autistic traits, strengths, and challenges. This presentation is given by an Autistic adult and a Neurodivergent ally. You might enjoy this presentation and discussion if you are newly diagnosed, considering whether you may be autistic, or if you have only explored autism through a deficit lens in the past.

Multi-Session Group Music Lessons for Adults from Berklee Institute for Accessible Arts Education Berklee School of Music

The Berklee Institute for Accessible Arts Education (BIAAE) is generously offering free group music lessons to Autistic adults. Traditional instrument options include: Alto Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute, Trombone, Trumpet, Violin, Viola, Guitar, Piano, Voice, or Percussion. If you do not have a physical instruction, we recommend visiting your local music store to source an instrument or use a virtual instrument through Bandlab for Education platform.

Explore and grow as independent and ensemble musicians using instruments or voice during practice and group lessons. Lessons will focus on note reading, technique, and recording as participants will work to record and perform music with their peers. Participants will use Bandlab for Education (a free platform) to collaborate in an ensemble and to optionally use virtual/digital instruments.

Support Groups also called Share Groups are the backbone of FOCUS, the first program ever offered. Share Groups meet monthly (September to May) in several different locations around metro Atlanta so parents can meet other parents and share tips, fears, and joys. Parent volunteers facilitate the groups, keeping them positive, constructive, and uplifting.

Eligibility:

Be a parent/caregiver of a child/young adult with a physical and/or developmental disabilities, including rare genetic syndromes, cerebral palsy, autism, and Down syndrome.
Parents will review and sign COVID-19 acknowledgements and the guidelines required by FOCUS for the Share Group Season before attending their first meeting.
